Sustainable R290 HVAC solutions

R290 and AURORA –
Efficient. Safe. Future-proof.

AURORA sets the standards for tomorrow’s mobility. AURORA is one of very few producers to offer an R290 HVAC solution for buses tried and tested by TÜV SÜD. At the same time, we are continuously developing additional R290 products, especially for use in buses and cabs.

With our technology we rely on the natural refrigerant R290 (propane) – a high-performance, sustainable and future-proof alternative to synthetic refrigerants, the use of the latter being increasingly restricted due to the EU F-Gas Regulation (EU-2024-573).

Why to choose R290 – and why AURORA:

General advantages of R290:

  • Very low Global Warming Potential (GWP = 3) – much more climate-friendly than synthetic alternatives
  • Thermodynamic properties comparable to R134a
  • Reliable cooling capacity also in case of high ambient temperatures, ideal for hot countries

R290 versus CO₂ – overwhelming advantages:

  • Much better cooling capacity in hot countries
  • Limited efficiency of CO₂ systems in case of high ambient temperatures
  • In practical application R290 systems stand out due to their high efficiency and, consequently, increased operating distance.

  • The system operates in a pressure range equivalent to that of R134a.

Safety and acceptance:
elaborate, tried and tested

R290 is a flammable refrigerant – but nevertheless safe if used in the context of a reliable safety concept. This safety concept has been developed together with TÜV SÜD and approved of by that organization. Meanwhile, first applications are produced in series.
